Love Believes the Best

There are many feelings and emotions found within the human experience that are often identified as love. But, true love is divine. It is completely different from friendship, lust, or even companionship. This divine love is unconditional and all encompassing -- it sees through God's eyes. Love overlooks personalities and conflicts and honors the gesture of the heart. Love believes the best in everyone and strives for unity.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 AMP: "Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, it is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God's love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [ it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]. It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail. Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person. Its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening]. Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]."

How will the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ walk in unity? By loving each other.

The scriptures proclaim that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (John 3:16). The Father sent Jesus to wash away the sins of the entire world by His death on the cross of calvary. By descending into hell to defeat the devil, resurrecting in glory, and bringing His perfect blood to the heavenly Mercy Seat, Jesus fulfilled the ultimate act of love -- establishing a new covenant in the earth. To this very day He holds out His hand in love to any and all who will come into newness of life.

But, as we read and meditate on His Words, we understand that the love story continues on:

"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another as I have loved you." (John 13:34)

"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." (John 13:35)

"If you love me, keep my commandments." (John 14:14)

"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." (Matthew 22:37-39)

God is love. To walk in unity, we must walk in love. We cannot separate the two. There is power in unity -- and it is called, "love."
